Alex Hovden wins RYA Thames Valley Regional Young Sailor of the year 2008 news article
Access and Challenger sailor Alex Hovden won the 2008 RYA Thames Valley Regional Young Sailor of the year award and was entered in the National young sailor of the year award to be awarded at the Excel London Boat Show. Read below Alex's account:
Alex says Hi,
Saturday was the boat show. We were there at 10am, where we had a short briefing about the day. Later we went to the deck games, where I had a go on the micro boat racing! (I would strongly recommend that you try to use two hands for this!). Later we went for lunch, which consisted of a very nice curry aboard HMS Westminister. This was followed by a tour of the boat.
We then spent our time handing out pre-prepared leaflets to give to potential sponsors. We also listened to a talk by Geoff Holt.
The prizegiving was at 4pm (needless to say that it was slightly late) and I had some very strong supporters!!
I didn't win the national young sailor of the year.. that went to Frances and James Peters, both of whom won gold at the 29er worlds. However I received the trophy for the regional one! Attached is a picture of me with the trophy!!
See you soon!
Best Wishes,
Alex Hovden.

I am currently sailing with the hope of being selected for the 2012 Paralympic Sailing Event. Unfortunately, sailing is a very expensive sport, and I am going to need a lot of financial support. If you know of anyone who may be interested in sponsoring me, please e-mail me at cremedelamonth@hotmail.com.
